Biloela man Travis Davis' murderer a'good liar'
WILLIAM Darcy Reid will spend his life behind bars for murdering a Biloela man on October 23, 2013.
Travis Davis' body was found in bushland close to Kuranda, near Cairns, on November 24, 2013.
The Cairns Post newspaper reported that Reid faced Cairns Supreme Court last Friday and was found guilty of the murder.
Reid had denied killing Mr Davis (pictured) and gave police three different versions of events.
Justice James Henry described Reid as a "good liar".
"Frankly, if you told the truth now it would be remarkable if anyone would believe you," Justice Henry said in court.
"You have taken the life of another human being with devastating consequences."
Mr Davis was a 28-year-old traveller who had frequented the small indigenous township of Mona Mona, near Kuranda, in the months before his death.
An impact statement read to the court by Crown Prosecutor Daniel Boyle on behalf of the victim's mother, Sue-Anne Davis, said her son's death had left the family "broken".
"No family should ever have to feel this heartbroken and no parent should have to bury a child," she said.
"It is a nightmare we will never wake up from."
The Cairns Post reports that when the verdict was handed down, the 22-year-old sobbed and put his head down.
"He didn't do it," Reid's mother said before storming out of court.
Tensions boiled over in the courtroom after Justice Henry handed down Reid's sentence of life behind bars, with police officers having to physically escort Reid from the courtroom.
