THE old-fashioned make up and the cheeky costumes are ready. Now it is time to shine for two young Northern Rivers women who will compete at the Miss Pinup Australia pageant in Sydney.

The masquerade vintage-themed ball will be held at the Hornsby RSL in Sydney on Saturday.

Kate Morgan from Ballina will be competing in the Classic Pinup (over 30s) category representing Queensland.

Her pinup name is "Kate's Kisses".

Ms Morgan has collected costumes and vintage props from shops in Alstonville, Mullumbimby and Lismore since she was a teenager.

For her talent routine, Ms Morgan will be singing Dream of You from the movie Singing in the Rain, originally sung by Debbie Reynolds in the 1952 flick.

"I am super happy to go this year, the girls are normally very friendly, there is no rivalry as we all share our love for vintage style," Ms Morgan said.

In her pageant entry, Kate's Kisses described herself as "a small town community woman, mother of three, adoring wife, friend, domestic goddess and crazed lover of vintage opportunities like Miss Pinup Australia".

Lismore's Beth Power will be competing in the Miss Perfect Pinup category with Miss Glam Doll as her pinup name.

She has been very busy getting ready a comedy routine for the talent competition, to complement her 1950s Women's Weekly Cover Girl look, as she describes it.

Asked about her strongest features for the competition, she explains: "My blue eyes and my hourglass figure are definitely my best assets".

She has always had "this love for vintage glamour" and when she found the competition she could not enter fast enough.

This is the first time that both women have reached the national titles and Ms Morgan is very excited to attend "the perfect girly weekend".

There will be five sub-categories for the women to compete in, all in 1940s and 50s style: day wear, evening wear, swimsuit, lingerie and a talent competition.

All women automatically enter the Miss Popular Pinup category. Anyone can vote at misspinupaustralia.com.au.

The other categories in this weekend's event will be:

  • Miss Illustrated Pinup (gals that have tattoos that are visible when wearing normal clothes),
  • Miss VaVaVoom Pinup (gals over a modern dress size 14)
  • Mr Pinup Australia, with three male contestants this year.
