Lightning strikes cause 34 fires

FIRE FIGHTERS are working to control seven grass fires in the Blackall, Barcaldine and Longreach area that began from lightning strikes over the past week.

A Queensland Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said a further 27 bush fires had been sparked by the strikes within the last week, but were either under control and in the hands of property owners or had been extinguished.
