Lightning strikes up fire near Thangool during storm

THE weather gods unleashed a night-time spectacle yesterday when lightning struck the Rockhampton and Banana Shire regions last night.

But, it sparked an unwanted fire last night near Thangool, 11.8km south of Biloela.

Three rural fire crews attended the blaze, which sparked up just after 10pm.

No structures were under threat.

A fire break (a dirt mound designed to stop a fire from spreading) was constructed to contain the blaze.

Fire crews remain at the scene.

The blaze has been controlled.
