Lights out at boat ramp

WHEN Rockhampton local Josh Witt went fishing down at the new Quay St boat ramp last Tuesday night, he was puzzled why every other light on the riverbank was on, yet he was in darkness.

“We went down to the new floating pontoon and boat ramp and the lights weren’t on there,” he said.

“I just found it to be really strange because all the other lights on the riverbank were on.”

Ergon Energy’s corporate communications manager Bob Pleash said it wasn’t due to billing issues this time, as reported in The Morning Bulletin in June.

“It is probably to do with the operation of the lights, as we have not been made aware of any billing issues regarding the lighting there,” Mr Pleash said.

There is no direct lighting on the pontoon.

However, the nearby car park supplies the area with lighting after darkness falls.

Currently under the supervision of the State Government’s Department of Public Works, a spokesman for the department on Friday said Ergon Energy had confirmed that power was being supplied to the site.

“Ergon believes there is possibly a fault with the daylight switch, which activates the car park lighting.”

“This issue is being immediately addressed this afternoon by a local electrical contractor for rectification.”
