Lilly and Braxton are the most popular baby names for Mackay

According to Mackay's Mater hospital, Lilly and Seanna were the most popular baby girl names for Mackay last year, along with Braxton and Nate for the boys.

Across the state, the most popular baby names registered last year were Oliver and Charlotte.

Oliver knocked other popular names Jack and Cooper out of the top spot while Charlotte topped this year's list in front of last year's favourites Ruby and Sophie.

According to Meaning-of-Names:

  • Oliver means the olive tree, which symbolises fruitfulness and beauty and dignity. It is a name that comes from England, Germany, France and Denmark.
  • Charlotte is the female version of Charles, which means manly. Charlotte means feminine and is from France and England.
  • Seanna, originated in Ireland, means God is gracious
  • Lilly is from the lily flower, which is a symbol of innocence, purity and beauty. It is from England.
  • Braxton is from England and means "brocks town".
  • Nate is a name from Israel and means gift of God.
