Lions reject Green hoping for a fresh start

AFL: Goalsneak Josh Green has told of his shock at being delisted by the Brisbane Lions.

The two-time leading goalkicker (2014-15) was axed last week after playing 81 games since debuting in the 2011 season.

Still only 24, the Tasmanian can be expected to be given a lifeline this month as a delisted free agent or at the upcoming rookie draft.

"I think being delisted kind of shocked me in a way - at an age I know my best football is ahead of me,” he told SEN radio.

"If I'm given the chance at a new club I'm going to give it all I've got, so (I am) really looking forward to hopefully a fresh start somewhere.”

A creative forward pocket, Green was limited to just 11 senior appearances in 2016 due to injury.

"This year I broke my foot in January, missed the whole of the pre-season, which didn't help, and was just playing catch-up the entire year.

Green paid triubute to his former coach Justin Leppitsch, who was replaced at season's end by Chris Fagan.

"Justin was great for me. He gave me every opportunity,” he said.
