Bulletin reporter horses around in racing event in CBD
I CAN now add racing a horse on Melbourne Cup Day to my life experiences.
Not that it was a real horse, or even on a race track.
Myself and a few local personalities took to the roundabout in the middle of East St yesterday morning, ready to race our hobby horses.
With traffic stopped, we were ready to go, battling it out over two laps of the roundabout.
I was ahead for the first lap on my horse Dependabully, but it wasn't long until WIN news Rockhampton bureau chief Aaron Kelly and Capras Coach Jason Hetherington overtook me on the second lap.
Mayor Margaret Strelow had shoe dramas in the midst of the race with her heels, but she still kept up and ran with style.
But it wasn't over yet; I was still in the top four and eager to win.
With the finishing line coming close, Aaron Kelly sped up and took out the race on his horse Chicken Dinner.
I think I finished third or fourth, I couldn't tell in all the commotion and my hurriedness to get off the road in morning traffic!
I might not have won, but I'm up for a re-match next year.
