Livingstone gardeners come up roses in Garden Spectacular

OUR region's talented green thumbs were revealed this week with the announcement of the 2014 Betascapes Spring Garden Spectacular competition winners - and Livingstone Shire scooped the pool, winning an incredible 12 places in the 22 category awards.

Rockhampton Regional Council and Livingstone Shire Council joined today to congratulate those who participated in this year's regional garden competition.

Chair of Rockhampton Regional Council's parks and recreation committee, councillor Cherie Rutherford said she was very impressed with this year's entries.

"The Betascapes Spring Garden Spectacular remains our region's most eagerly awaited gardening competition. All up, there were 69 individual nominations across the 10 categories, which shows how popular it is with our local garden enthusiasts," Cr Rutherford said.

"I'd particularly like to congratulate Lance and Sherie Wood, from Rockyview Estate, who took out this year's Grand Champion Garden - it was a very impressive example of skill and colour.

Councillor Tom Wyatt, who looks after the portfolios of Sport, Recreation, Parks and Community Facilities for Livingstone Shire Council, said that each year this competition showcased the flair, passion and imagination of our local gardeners.

"It is pleasing to see a mix of entries from different locations, from the beach to the city and the bush," Cr Wyatt said.

"Our gardens make our cities liveable, pleasurable and therapeutic places, contributing to the well-being of our community.

"I acknowledge the dedication and the effort which has gone into all our entrants' gardens and congratulate our winning gardeners."
