LNP anger over outgoing Capricornia MP’s paperwork

ELECTION material distributed by the retiring Member for Capricornia Kirsten Livermore has been referred to the Department of Finance for investigation into potential misuse of taxpayer funds.

Member for Dawson George Christensen wrote to the Department of Finance yesterday, asking if taxpayer funds were used to produce the material and if those funds could be used to produce material that was demonstrably false.

LNP candidate for Capricornia Michelle Landry said residents had lodged complaints about Labor's election material, claiming it contained a series of false claims about education.

"The claims made in the election flyer are demonstrably false and attempt to blame decisions made by the current Labor government on a future government," Ms Landry said.

"It even claims one in seven teachers will be sacked when the Federal Government does not employ a single teacher."

If the Federal election for 2013 was held tomorrow, who would you vote to represent Capricornia?

This poll ended on 30 August 2013.

Ms Landry said she had no problem with the Labor Party presenting its case for election but questioned the accuracy information in the material.

"It is almost embarrassing for the retiring Labor MP to make claims about programs that her own party has cut and closed down," she said.

THE claims

LNP candidate for Capricornia Michelle Landry said the flyer claimed the LNP was committed to:

Freezing the Computers in Schools Program, "despite the fact that the Labor government cut $600 million from Computers in Schools in the last budget, ending the program entirely";

Reducing funding for teacher training, "a program that is due to expire at the end of this financial year and the Labor government made the decision not to extend it in the budget";

Scrapping Trade Training Centres, "even though the Labor Party is fully aware that the Liberal National Coalition's policy would not close any existing centres at all".
