Today was extra special for Rockhampton State High School Captain, Madison dyer who was awarded a major scholarship.

Madison beat out other applicants and took home the $2000 2015 Alby and Win Forday Bursary which she said would help her achieve her goals of studying music therapy in Melbourne.

"I feel honoured to receive the bursary," she said.

"I thought there were lots of other candidates which were well suited to the award."

Madison was awarded the bursary due to her consistently high level of academic achievements, extra-curricular participation and community involvement.

Her teachers said she was heavily involved in events including relay for life and she even won battle of the bands district finals.

The graduate who spoke at her graduation today said it was wonderful to receive the award to top of a week of graduation celebrations.

"We had formal on Wednesday night and everyone looked exquisite," she said.

"I'm glad to receive the award but it's sad knowing that I finish school today forever."

Madison plans to take a well-deserved break to work and travel during her gap year before she returns to studying in Melbourne.
