Local kids choir cleans up at Queensland eistedfodd

AS THE Rockhampton Musical Union Youth Choir boarded the bus back to Rockhampton this morning they took several awards with them.

The local choir travelled to Toowoomba to compete in the Queensland eisteddfod where they entered five sections and sung their hearts out to seven songs.

The Rockhampton group may have only had 21 singers but they still managed to take out three first places, one second place and a highly commended.

The choir consisted of kids aged eight to 18 years who came from Emmaus College, Rockhampton Grammar School, North Rockhampton State High School, Rockhampton High School, St Mary's Catholic Primary school and the Hall State School.

Youth Choir secretary Sonya Acutt said not only were the musical union kids talented, but kind, respectful, caring and funny young people.

"We'd love to get more kids involved…..the adjudicator loved the discipline of our kids and one remark stated; a beautiful performance the blend of voices is exquisite and you all are involved vocally and musically and communicate this with the audience," she said.

The choir will be holding a concert at the RMU hall in Denison St on May 7 to showcase their eisteddfod work.

Tickets will cost $12 for an adult or $10 for a child.

 

WHAT THEY WON: 

  • 1st place with 93 marks for the Small Vocal Ensemble
  • 1st place with 93 marks for the Small Vocal Ensemble
  • 1st place with 92 marks for Youth Modern Chorus
  • 2nd place with 89 and 92 marks in the Junior Choral contest
  • Highly commended in the Intermediate Choral Contest with 81 marks.
