Rockhampton lawyer in top 15 in Queensland
GEORGE Cowan found a career which allowed him to follow his passion of helping people and 25 years later he couldn't be happier.
The born and bred Rockhampton man found his calling as a lawyer in the field of compensation after he graduated from the Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Law in 1989.
Now the head of Rees R & Sydney Jones litigation team, Mr Cowan has found himself recognised by the Doyles Guide as one of the top 15 workplace lawyers in Queensland.
The Doyles Guide is an independent directory to the legal world in Australia and those who rank in the guide have been identified by people involved in the legal field based on expertise and ability.
Mr Cowan, who joined the Rockhampton law firm in 1995, said his main focus as a lawyer was to put his clients first and being recognised for his work was an added bonus.
"My main focus as a lawyer has always been to be readily available for my clients and to ensure that their claims run as efficiently as possible so they can plan for their future," he said.
"Being named in the top 15 workplace compensation lawyers in Queensland was unexpected, but I must say it is very pleasing to be recognised by my peers for my expertise."
Mr Cowan, who is also a partner at Rees R & Sydney Jones, said the firm's litigation team, which he led, had also been recognised in the Doyles Guide for workplace compensation.
"This is a remarkable achievement given that we are the only legal firm outside of Brisbane to be recognised by our peers for our expertise," he said.
"It is great to see a local Rocky firm achieve this recognition among the heavyweights in this area of law. This honour will help us strive to provide even better service to our clients in Central Queensland."
Mr Cowan's colleague and fellow partner, Justin Houlihan, said it was a wonderful achievement for Mr Cowan and the team to be recognised by such a prestigious guide.
"The Doyles are kind of like the gold Logies of the legal world," Mr Houlihan laughed.
Mr Cowan said between himself and the other partners they all had about 70 years of experience and he loved helping the local community with his knowledge.
"I have practised law for a long time in Rockhampton, it has everything you need."
