SIMON Cox from Zilzie near Rockhampton has won $35,000 in a photo finish to Suzuki Queensland's car servicing competition.

When Suzuki contacted Simon with news of his win, he was just completing a photography holiday and travelling south along Fraser Island's ocean beach towards Inskip Point to catch the ferry across to Rainbow Beach and then make his way back home.

"Really? Wackoooo !!!!" was Simon's initial response.

"That's excellent - I'm rapt. I'm ecstatic - I've never won anything like this before."

The keen photography enthusiast was on a holiday with Trekabout photography tours on Fraser Island, with the mobile phone connection drifting in an out.

Fortunately, he found a location with reception and was able to get the driver of their vehicle to pull up safely so we could confirm news of Simon's win.

It has been something of a continuing run of great news for Simon.

First, he retired from the IT section of a Queensland Government department last year.

He then made the great decision to buy a new Grand Vitara.

A few months ago, his partner Aurora made an equally smart decision to purchase a new Suzuki Swift

And a few weeks ago he dodged cyclone Debbie by being on the photographic tour.

An excellent lead-up to news of his win.

Congratulations Simon.
