SIX up-and-coming Gold Coast bands will hit the 20th Anniversary Big Day Out's A-Venue stage on Sunday.
Alone With Wolves, Red Spencer, Fairchild Republic, Pirates Alive, Loustar and Stellar Green were selected from the 118 bands that applied to the A-Venue showcase program.
Big Day Out's line-up this year includes international acts Kanye West, Soundgarden, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Nero, Kasabian, My Chemical Romance, Battles, Odd Future, Mariachi El Bronx, Girl Talk, Royksopp, Foster the People, Cage the Elephant, Frenzal Rhomb and Best Coast.
Playing alongside them and certainly not in their shadows will be some of Australia's best live acts, including The Living End, Hilltop Hoods, Parkway Drive, The Jezabels, Architecture in Helsinki, The Getaway Plan and Boy & Bear.
Community and cultural development chairman Bob La Castra said the council was delighted to partner with the Big Day Out in its 20th anniversary year.
"It is a major milestone for any festival to achieve and fantastic to see their ongoing commitment to providing world-class performance opportunities for local contemporary musicians," Cr La Castra said.
"To give up-and-coming bands the chance to play at major events like Parklife, Summafieldayze and Big Day Out, with potential audiences of 55,000, is a tremendous opportunity."
Fairchild Republic's Adam Lyons said being included was a massive surprise.
"I thought it was a joke," Mr Lyons said.
"It is a massive opportunity and privilege for a Gold Coast band to play at Big Day Out.
"It is a great platform and ammunition for us to have under our belt in progressing forward in the music industry as we work on bringing out an album this year."
