Older, wiser and feeling better at 60 than at 30

LOIS Robinson has to be one of the Clarence Valley's best advertisements for a healthy lifestyle.

At her 60th birthday last year the Healthy Clarence Communities leader told guests at her party she felt better now than she did at 30.

"When I was young I avoided every type of exercises," Lois said.

"I was the kid who turned up at school sport each week with her ankle bandaged."

It's hard to reconcile the outgoing Lois, who runs the successful Clarence Valley Biggest Loser Competition, with the younger version of herself.

"I had to do something about it, I was in a state of depression because of the state I was in," she said.

"It's dug me out of the black. I had lost all confidence in myself."

Lois went to Weight Watchers, where she learned the value of good nutrition and regular exercise.

"One of the things I realised was it's not just about losing weight," Lois said.

"It's about making the right choices. It's about being able to pick up your grandkids when you play with them.

"It's about keeping up your mobility."

Her transformation has been so complete Lois is now training to become a fitness instructor and is preparing to walk the infamous Kokoda Track in New Guinea.

She is also excited about the 2014 Biggest Loser Competition, which begins on Saturday with the first weigh-in.

"It's been such a great program," she said.

"We had a woman come who could only move around with a wheelie walker. The start of her program was to enable her to be able to walk to the mailbox each day to collect her mail.

"By the end of the program she'd lost enough weight she was able to have the operation that restored her mobility."
