American car lover is taking it to the streets
TAKING to the roads in rare American cars has kept 78-year-old Ken Blakemore young at heart - and now he is sharing the passion.
The collector of American cars has purchased not just one, but two Dodge Challenger RTs - both made Australian compliant this year - and has one up for sale .
"They're pretty rare in Australia - there's not a lot around," he said of the five-seaters.
"That's just about all a young bloke needs."
Mr Blakemore said his love for American cars began at age 16 when he came to be the proud owner of a Chevrolet.
"I've had American cars ever since then," he said.
His collection has included Buicks and Pontiacs and led to him being a member of more than one car club.
"It (collecting cars) is just good fun, especially sharing it with a group of people with the same interest," Mr Blakemore said.
"Most people only have one car that they enjoy - I've got a shed-full."
The Palmwoods retiree's collection includes a "very rare" 1959 Chevy Impala and a 1977 Cadillac Opera - one of only 120 built and the only yellow one in the world.
Mr Blakemore said the choice of Dodge Challenger was up to the buyer as he planned to keep the remaining one in his collection.
Both have been imported from the US and, as is required by law, their left-hand drive has been converted to right-hand. They are going from $90,000.
