Lynn pick of the bunch for award with 45 years experience
ROCKHAMPTON'S Lynn Russell is an expert in delivering a touch of happiness, even on the saddest of occasions.
And her skills have now been recognised.
Lynn, 63, was the pick of the bunch of more than 200 competitors when she won the Queensland 2014 Interflora Pursuit of Excellence Award earlier this month.
The local florist and owner of The Flower Box Rockhampton has been a florist for 45 years. It's clear she takes great pride in her work.
"Every day is different, every need and order is different and extracting information out of someone then transferring their feelings into an arrangement is really exciting," Lynn said.
"I just love delivering happiness. Even if it's a sad occasion you're delivering some amount of happiness to someone in some way.
"I think it's the connection with people and making someone feel special."
She said she was delighted by the win.
"I was just beside myself when I was told that we'd won, it was unbelievable," she said.
"It's a big feather in our cap and it's a very big milestone for the Flower Box team. Winning the award just makes us want to keep moving forward and continuing to do a good job.
"Being from a regional town like Rockhampton we try really hard to give the best service and provide our customers with a consistent amount of fresh product every week. A lot of people think being a florist is an easy job but there's a lot more to being a florist than playing with flowers."
Lynn has worked with some of Australia's leading floral designers in recent weeks as well as designers who have achieved at an international level. She now hopes to achieve the winner's position again next year.
Lynn's tips to arranging flowers:
Make sure the flower suits the climate it's being delivered to.
Know a little about the person so you can incorporate their favourite colour or personality in the arrangement.
It doesn't have to be a special occasion to buy someone flowers.
