Makybe Diva’s daughter stars on debut

AFTER some flops, legendary mare Makybe Diva may have finally passed on some of her great genes judging by the exciting debut win of her sixth foal Divanation at Werribee on Friday.

Her three-year-old filly Divanation toyed with her rivals to win her debut over 1600m.

Divanation was ridden by Luke Currie, who partnered the three-time Melbourne Cup winner to two feature wins early in her career in the Werribee Cup and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Currie said it was nice to win on a daughter of Makybe Diva at the same track where he won a Werribee Cup on the star mare.

"She travelled well. She was quite impressive and there's improvement to come," Currie said.

Divanation's trainer Tony McEvoy is on a short break in the Flinders Rangers but found time to watch the race from a hotel in Jamestown and said he was excited by what he saw.

"She impressed me. She was very professional," McEvoy said.

"She's been a slow maturing horse but in the last month she's come on a lot. I've got to thank her owners for being so patient."

McEvoy said he would discuss with his team whether she had another run in the country or headed to town for her next start.

Divanation, by All Too Hard, sold for $300,000 at the 2016 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.

Makybe Diva has produced four winners from her six foals to race, the others are country winner Rockstardom, recent New Zealand winner Surrey and picnic winner Taqneen.

The 19-year-old mare has since had two more foals, which include a Starspangledbanner two-year-old filly called Demand Attention, which is in Chris Waller's stables, and a yearling filly by Brazen Beau. She's in foal to Written Tycoon.
