Mallet sports challenge a big hit

THE recent Rockhampton Mallet Sports Capricornia Trophy competition proved to be a big success with 18 participants, despite the showery weather.

It takes more than a bit of wet weather to keep these hardy souls away from their sport and with players from the Capricorn Coast, Gracemere and the host Rockhampton club there were close battles across the disciplines of ricochet, doubles, and handicap.

Taking home the Capricornia Trophy for 2012 are John Hoffman and Lynne Parry who won six of their eight games.

It was a closely fought battle for the position of runner-up with George Budd and Wendy Stephens from the Capricorn Coast, June Taylor and Kath Cavanagh plus Jess Lauga and May Fedderson, both teams from Rockhampton, winning five of their games.

However, on a countback the second placing was awarded to Budd and Stephens while Lauga and Fedderson finished third.
