Mallet sports plans great effort

WHAT a year it has been for the Rockhampton Mallet Sports Club with the staging of the National Gateball Championship being a terrific highlight.

Recently the 2009 activities officially ended with the presentation of trophies at the club’s end of year function at Athelstane House (see results section of this paper).

However, while the occasion was to celebrate performances during 2009, there was still a chance to look into the future and the club’s expectations for the year to come.

All disciplines will resume during January, 2010, with the first management committee meeting scheduled for January 19, at 1.30pm at the clubhouse.

Next year the main events the club will compete are inter-regional competition in May, “Winter in the Sun” in July and a State titles in August, together with numerous intra-club and intra-regional events.

Major competitions are the inter-regional gateball championships to be held at Toowoomba on May 8 and 9.

Locally the “Winter in the Sun” tournament will run from June 19 until July 11 and will see competition in four disciplines, association croquet, golf croquet, ricochet and gateball.

That event is open to all comers on any of Gracemere, Capricorn Coast or Rockhampton lawns.

The State Gateball Championships will be held at McIlwraith Club (Auchenflower, Brisbane) on August 21, 22
