Group of gatecrashers bash man, 24, at Booral party

A YOUNG man is being treated for serious head injuries after he was brutally attacked by a group of uninvited thugs outside a family party at the weekend.

Police were called to the scene about 10pm amid reports more than 20 people had armed themselves with bottles and fence palings after being refused entry to the party at Sea Eagles Rd, Booral.

When police arrived, they were told a 24-year-old male had been set upon by at least nine people during one of many altercations between the guests and gatecrashers.

Acting Hervey Bay Sergeant Richard Whatman said police were investigating whether the man was struck with a bottle.

Acting Sgt Whatman said detectives had visited the man in hospital about an hour-and-a-half after the assault but could speak with him only briefly due to his injuries.

Last night, the victim, who did not live at the address, was still being treated for his injuries and was expected to be flown to a Brisbane hospital.

The Chronicle understands his injuries are not life threatening but will likely require surgery.

No charges had been laid but a police spokeswoman confirmed several people still needed to be interviewed and investigations were continuing.

She said police would take a statement from the victim once his condition improved.

Anyone with information can phone Hervey Bay Police on 4123 8111.
