Son's prayer for mum, 82, found dead

THE son of an elderly Brisbane woman found dead has described his mother as "loving" and "calm" as he prayed outside her home.

The 82-year-old woman was found unresponsive in the bedroom of her home in Kingston on Sunday morning after emergency crews were called to the home shortly before 1am.

An 83-year-old man was taken into custody and questioned and was last night charged with murder.

Huabian Hu, 83, did not appear in the dock of the Beenleigh Magistrates Cort this morning when the murder charge was mentioned.

Hu was unable to apply for bail during the procedural hearing and was remanded in custody until September 11.

He did not appear in person for the brief mention.

The court this morning heard Hu was expected to receive a mental health assessment while in custody.

The couple is understood to have moved from China a number of years ago and spoke little English.

Their son Joe Hu, who travelled from Bundaberg, yesterday visited the family home where he was seen praying.

Mr Hu paid tribute to his mother's memory, describing her as a loving and calm family figure.

"My mum was a teacher, she was very nice," Mr Hu said.

"She never had any troubles, she was very calm.

Valieriu Pacuraru, a cleaner at the neighbouring Bethel Romanian Baptist Church, said the 83-year-old man had visited the church twice over the past two weeks.

"They were nice people," he said.
