POLICE have released a computer generated image of a man accused of trying to abduct a 14-year-old girl east of Brisbane.

The girl was walking to a friend's house when the man tried to drag her into an SUV along Quarry Road in Birkdale about 10am on Thursday.

The man is described as being Caucasian in appearance, about 30-years old and around 170cms tall.  He has a heavy build, brown short hair, full cheeks and a short beard along his jawline.

At the time, he was seen wearing a light grey T-shirt and knee length cream-coloured shorts.

Around 10am the girl was walking along Quarry Road near the intersection with Birkdale Road when a vehicle stopped behind her.

The male driver opened the rear passenger door before grabbing the girl's arm and demanding she get into the vehicle.

The girl struck the man in the face before managing to run away and seek assistance at a nearby house.

Police are urging anyone who may recognise this man, or who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
