Skull cracked in baseball bat attack

THE last thing Daniel Hixon remembers about Saturday night is opening the front door.

That is until he woke up in hospital the next day with a cracked skull and a brain haemorrhage, along with bruising to the upper body.

The 23-year-old went to the home in Mt Morgan of a former girlfriend, who is also the mother of his one-year-old son, about 9.30pm on Saturday.

He said it was about 20 minutes later that there was a knock at the door and he went to answer it.

Daniel's father, Peter, said the reports they had heard afterwards suggest the two attackers were well-known in the Mt Morgan community.

"We have a huge family up there," he said.

"I am concerned there will be retaliation while these fellows are still walking around.

"I don't want to see anyone else in this situation."

He said it was very concerning that the ex-girlfriend was threatened by the attackers when she had followed Daniel to the door, with the baby on her hip, and tried to stop the attack.

Daniel said there were about 25 people at the house all ready for a party, many of them young teenagers.

It is believed the attackers hit Daniel 10 times with steel baseball bats.

A police spokesman said investigations were under way into the incident.

They said there were two witnesses to the incident, but neither was able to identify the attackers.

The police spokesman said there were a number of people who said they knew who the attackers were, but at this stage it was only hearsay.

They said the attack was unjustified and it was possible grievous bodily harm charges would be laid.
