Man, 70, beaten with metal pole still fights off car thief

A TEENAGER has allegedly attempted to steal a car using a weapon on Sunday afternoon.

Police say around 1pm, the teen has approached a 70-year-old man who'd parked his car on Quelch Street, Rockville, and demanded his car keys.

When the man said no, the teen allegedly hit the man in the head with a steel bar repeatedly

The man fought back and the teen ran away with two other teens who were nearby.

The older man received several cuts to the head and was taken to Toowoomba Base Hospital for treatment.

Police are looking for a male described as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance, approximately 18-years-old, 178cm tall with a thin build, short black hair and facial stubble.

Investigations are continuing.
