BRIAN and Rosemary Ross always shop at Woolworths, but say there is one product they will not purchase again.

After eating a Goulburn Valley Two Fruits from The Valley Woolworths, Mr Ross became ill.

He had one teaspoon of the fruit when he noticed a strange odour.

"I had a headache for the following 12 hours, the odour was so powerful," Mr Ross said.

Mr Ross said after talking to Queensland Health, he secured the container and has kept it in his fridge. QH will collect the product for testing.

"It's so important to have it tested," Mr Ross said.

"But sometimes things can taste terrible but not be contaminated."

The product was bought about two weeks ago.

"It's a fruit - not a meat or fish - that's why I think it may be contaminated," Mr Ross said.

He said he talked to an employee at the store who told him he could have a refund.

A Woolworths representative said the company takes food safety seriously.

"In line with our food safety and quality standards, we will ensure this matter is fully investigated with the customer, the store and the supplier," the representative said.

"Woolworths takes pride in the quality of all our products and we offer our customers a 'Fresh and Free Guarantee' as standard practice."

If a customer is unhappy with a product's quality they can take their receipt back to the store in exchange for a full refund and replacement of the product.

If you come across a product you think isn't quite right, you can call your council in the first instance. They will refer the complaint to the Queensland Health Public Health Unit.
