Man charged after spitting on police and medical staff

A MAN has been charged with assault after police and medical staff were allegedly assaulted and spat on at Woorabinda last night.

Around 10pm police were called to a medical facility at Woorabinda where a man had allegedly assaulted two nurses and a doctor by punching and spitting at them and was causing a disturbance.

Two police officers attempted to restrain the man when they were allegedly spat on and kicked. A male officer was also bitten on the arm, drawing blood.

During the incident medical equipment was also allegedly damaged after being kicked by the man.

It will also be alleged a window of a police vehicle was earlier broken at Wooroonah Street, Baralba by the same man.

A 20-year-old Woorabinda man has been charged with two counts of serious assault public officer performing function by spitting, and one count each of serious assault public officer performing function, serious assault police officer causing bodily harm, serious assault police officer and obstruct police. He is expected to appear at the Rockhampton

Magistrates Court tomorrow, March 9.

No one was seriously injured and a disease test order is underway.
