Man, 62, charged with alleged child sexual offences

A MAN has been charged over a series of alleged sexual assaults in Coffs Harbour dating back more than 20 years.

Police have been investigating allegations that a 62-year-old Coffs Harbour resident sexually abused a teenage boy several times in the Coffs Harbour area in 1992.

At the time of the alleged offences the boy was 14 years of age.

It is alleged the man owned a food stand at the time, where the 14-year-old boy was employed.

Following an investigation, detectives from Coffs Clarence Local Area Command yesterday arrested and charged the man.

The man was served with a notice to attend Coffs Harbour Local Court today for five counts of indecent acts with child under the age of 16, and one count of having sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 16.

Magistrate Robert Walker adjourned proceedings until August 25.

Bail was granted on the condition the man report to Coffs Harbour police three times a week, and not associate with or contact any person under the age of 18.
