Man charged with a number of historic sex offences

DETECTIVES from Smithfield Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a man following investigations into historical sexual and other serious offences, dating back as far as seven years.

On Friday December 4 a 40-year-old man was charged with a further 10 offences, including two counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault and five counts of entering a dwelling with intent at night.

The man had been previously charged in August with 42 offences, including one count of obstruct, 37 counts of possession of digital recordings, one count of sexual assault, one count of assault with intent to rape, two counts if enter dwelling.

Police will allege the offences occurred in Earlville and Kewarra Beach.

The man is currently in custody and will appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on December 14.
