Man charged over airport ramming
A 26-YEAR-old Gladstone man is being assessed by mental health professionals after he allegedly rammed through boom gates at Rockhampton airport yesterday morning.
Joseph John Beazley, who has been charged with wilful damage and serious assault was remanded in custody by Magistrate John McGrath.
Regional crime co-ordinator Detective Inspector Cal Lynch said police were called out to the airport around 2.15am after reports that a man was using a Toyota Landcruiser to ram through the boom-gates leading to the short- and long-term car park.
The man then allegedly stopped by the main entrance and banged on the main doors demanding access. When police arrived he got in the car and rammed through the gates at the exit.
He was arrested a short time later and, while at the Rockhampton watchhouse, allegedly punched a Senior Constable.
The officer had bruising and swelling to the face.
Beazley, who did not appear yesterday, is due to appear in court next month.
