Man charged over cops’ assault
A WOMAN was allegedly knocked out during a domestic fight between a man and a woman as a young child in the house phoned the Yeppoon Police for help.
When two policemen arrived at the home in Cooee Bay it is alleged they were confronted by a large man, who, after police began questioning him, kicked one in the head and broke his glasses which cut him below his right eye.
When the second policeman tried to offer his colleague assistance he was allegedly punched in the head also.
The incident took place on Thursday at 7.30pm and police said the man had been moderately affected by alcohol.
The girl who rang the Yeppoon Police was not injured in any way other than being frightened by the ordeal.
Both of the officers had to attend the Yeppoon Hospital.
One officer was treated for the cut below his right eye and both were examined for any lasting effects for being kicked and punched in the head.
One officer has recovered fully while the officer kicked in the head is still experiencing bad headaches.
The man has been charged with assault, two serious assaults on police and wilful damage. He was to appear in Yeppoon Magistrates' Court yesterday and has been released. He is due to appear in court again on May 16.
