Driver rams airport parking gates

A 26-year-old Gladstone man has been charged with wilful damage and serious assault following an alleged incident on Hunter Street at Rockhampton this morning.

Around 2.15am, police were called to the address following reports of a man allegedly ramming through parking gates at Rockhampton Airport in a utility vehicle.

Upon police arrival, the man has then allegedly driven through another set of parking gates to exit the address.

The man was subsequently intercepted nearby. It is then alleged the man assaulted an officer at the Rockhampton Watchhouse resulting in bruising and swelling to a senior constable’s face.

The 26-year-old man is due to appear before the Rockhampton Magistrates Court today.
