Man charged with Yeppoon arson

10.30am: A 28-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in Rockhampton Magistrates Court this morning charged with arson following a fire at a Yeppoon home last night.

Stephen Le Blanc, of Yeppoon, has been charged with deliberating setting a fire at a car port, adjacent to a house in Yeppoon, shortly before 6pm yesterday.

Legal aid lawyer Danny Yarrow made no application for bail and asked for the case to be adjourned.

Le Blanc was remanded in custody by Magistrate Annette Hennessy to reappear on December 23.

Acting regional crime coordinator Detective Inspector Cal Lynch said three people were in the house at the time.

The fire spread to the home and the residents evacuated themselves before a female occupant went back in and was overcome by the smoke.

Detective Inspector Cal Lynch said a neighbour went into the house and rescued the woman.

She was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by the Queensland Ambulance Service.

He said a man was arrested overnight and charged with arson.

One appliance and five firefighters attended the blaze which was extinguished by 6.13pm.

Police have set up a crime scene at the home and scientific officers have been sent from Mackay to investigate.
