ONE man is dead after a fatal crash between a tow truck and a b-double at 5.50am just south of The Caves on the Bruce Hwy.

Central region traffic co-ordinator Acting Inspector Steve Hall said the man died at the scene.

According to an AAP report, the deceased was a 38-year-old Emerald man.

"This is the eighth fatality in the Central Region in 2012," Insp. Hall said.

"I urge all motorists to consider the fatal four - fatigue, speeding, alcohol and seatbelts."

Insp. Hall said the Bruce Hwy was closed for most of the day, with detours for small vehicles in place but did not cater for heavy vehicles.

Insp Hall said the highway was reopened by 3pm.

He said initial investigations indicated the accident between a tilt-tray tow-truck and the b-double was a head-on collision.

Insp. Hall said the driver of the other truck was taken to Rockhampton Hospital with minor injuries and was released from hospital late yesterday.

Queensland Fire and Rescue Service, Queensland Ambulance Service and SES volunteers were called to the scene. If anyone witnessed the accident, phone 131 444.
