Truckie killed in highway crash

UPDATE: THE Bruce Highway has been re-opened after a a horrific collision between two trucks just south of Caloundra in which a Brisbane man died.

Police said the two trucks were involved in the crash about 2.55am.

It is believed the trucks, B-doubles carrying produce to Brisbane, were both travelling in the same direction when one of the trucks ran off the right hand side of the road, corrected and then flipped, leaving its trailer laying across both lanes of the highway.

The second truck, which is believed to have been travelling only 700 metres behind, has collided with the first truck's trailer.

The driver of the second truck, believed to be from Brisbane, was killed.

Both trucks were from the same company, Rocky's Own Transport.

It is understood the driver of the first truck managed to get out of his vehicle himself. He was taken to Caboolture Hospital with minor injuries.

The accident happened south of Moby's Vic service station.

Police set up diversions southbound as the Bruce Highway was closed.

Motorists reported delays of up to three hours as  traffic was directed via the Steve Irwin Way.

Traffic congestion worsened when railway boom gates at Landsborough malfunctioned, meaning traffic along the Steve Irwin Way was backed up to the highway.

Another car accident on the Caloundra Road created more mayhem when a truck turning on a roundabout lost a pallet of Coca-Cola, throwing hundreds of bottles across the road.

The police forensic crash unit is investigating.
