Man dies during police siege

A man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound last night following a siege incident in Moranbah, Central Queensland.

Officers had been negotiating with the man in an attempt to resolve the situation peacefully after a siege situation developed at 2.40pm yesterday.

Police had warned residents of Moranbah to stay inside their homes as the man, inside a McCool Street resident, had discharged a fire arm several times.

McCool, Williams, Hannan and Grout Streets were closed off during the siege.

No one else was hurt in the incident.

The circumstances surrounding the siege will now be investigated by the Ethical Standards Command with overview by the Crime and Misconduct Commission.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
