Man escaping fire impales leg on stick

A MAN was retreating from a fire on his property west of Rockhampton when he tripped and impaled his leg on a stick last night.

The 63-year-old Clermont man was flown to Mackay Base Hospital this morning.

He was fighting fires on his property around 7.30 last night when his leg was impaled.

It took ambulance officers three hours to reach the man's property.

He was taken to Clermont Hospital last night and flown by the RACQ CQ Rescue helicopter to Mackay this morning.
