Man fined for sending vile texts, emails to former lover
A HIGH-flying business executive has fronted court for sending degrading, vile and abusive texts and emails to his former partner.
The man, 51, who cannot be named to protect the woman's identity, pleaded guilty on Monday in Ipswich Magistrates Court to five counts contravening a domestic violence order.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Brad Dick told the court the man and woman had been in a relationship for three years before it broke down.
He said the woman, 42, successfully applied for a domestic violence order against the man which was granted on December 12, 2013 in Toowoomba Magistrates Court.
Sgt Dick said the offences took place between February and November, 2015 and included a vile email sent on the woman's birthday.
He said the text messages and emails were extremely abusive in their nature.
"The number of text messages to the woman led to increased levels of stress and anxiety," he said.
"The woman says the messages and emails have greatly affected her self esteem and self worth.
"The messages and emails were particularly degrading and abusive in their nature."
The man's legal representative told the court he understands he acted inappropriately and now had moved on.
He said the man was a business executive at a leading agriculture company and said if a conviction was recorded it would hamper his ability to travel overseas for work.
"He instructs me the relationship was trying," he said.
"There was a history of breaking up before getting back together again.
"He says he knows he acted inappropriately but he was also on the receiving end of abuse from the woman."
Magistrate Virginia Sturgess said any contravention of a domestic violence order was unacceptable.
"No one should have to put up with being called a s***, w****, dumb, a drug addict or being told their family hates them," she said.
"The text messages and emails were unpleasant to read so I cannot imagine what it was like to receive them."
The man was fined $1000 and no conviction was recorded.
