Man hits jackpot after 31 years
AFTER 31 years, a Rockhampton man's numbers have finally paid off with a $1m-plus collect.
The man's entry in last week's Wednesday Gold Lotto proved a winner as he pocketed the top prize worth $1m as well as $10,186 in divisional prizes.
The man explained he had been playing the same numbers in Gold Lotto for more than three decades.
"I've been playing these numbers every Saturday since the game was first introduced in Queensland, and four years ago I decided to start playing them in Wednesday Gold Lotto as well," he said.
"Around 8.45pm on Wednesday night I decided to jump online to check the draw results.
"As soon as I saw the numbers on the screen I recognised them as mine, but it seemed too good to be true, so I watched the video of the draw and sure enough, my numbers dropped from the ball drawing machine.
"I went to bed but was up several times during the night, visiting my computer to check that the draw results hadn't changed.
"It wasn't until I saw the results printed in Thursday's newspaper that I was convinced that I was a division one Wednesday Gold Lotto winner."
Manager of Nextra Card and Paper at Stockland Bevan Dingley said he was excited the winning ticket was purchased at his store.
"I'm very happy for him and it's good to see his persistence finally paid off," Bevan said yesterday.
The man, who hasn't been identified, said he would share some of the prizemoney with his family and invest the rest for his retirement.
