Man jailed for stabbing long-term partner after drinking
A 47-YEAR-OLD Woorabinda man was jailed for stabbing his partner of 30 years on Friday.
The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the woman, pleaded guilty at the Rockhampton District Court to common assault and wounding.
He held his head in his hands as Crown prosecutor Susan Hedge described how the couple's fight on December 10, 2010 spiralled out of control.
The pair had been drinking at the time he attacked his partner.
Ms Hedge said the man punched the woman in the mouth and plunged a serrated bread knife into her thigh, causing a 10cm wound.
As soon as he cut her the man immediately apologised then rushed next door to get help from his sister, who took the woman to the hospital.
The man's defence lawyer, Ross Lo Monaco, said despite the incident the pair is still together.
Mr Lo Monaco said the woman was hoping he would not be jailed.
But Judge Paul Smith sentenced the man to jail time, setting a parole release date of September 7, 2014.
