URRAWEEN FATAL: "You will be very missed by all of us"

UPDATE SUNDAY 2PM: IN A tragic start to the holiday season, an Urraween man has been killed after he was hit by a car just metres from two Hervey Bay hospitals.

Although police have not released a name, community members and some who knew the man left messages of support for the families involved on social media.

The man died in the early hours of Saturday morning when he was hit by a car on the corner of Urraween Rd and Maryborough - Hervey Bay Rd. 

Police reported the 37-year-old man was hit by a car turning the corner about 1am.

It is believed the man was lying on the road when he was hit.

Queensland Ambulance Service Wide Bay senior operations supervisor Michael Low told the Chronicle CPR was performed on the man at the scene.

He was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

QPS said in a statement the 46-year-old woman driving the vehicle was not injured.

"The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating," the statement said.

A QPS media spokeswoman told the Chronicle no one had been charged in relation to the incident.

The incident happened just days after the launch of this year's Queensland Christmas Road Safety campaign.

Across Queensland, more than 230 people have lost their lives on the road this year.

QPS said in a statement the 47-year-old driving the vehicle was not injured. 

"The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating," the statement said.
