Man with piece of wood holds up servo

A MAN armed with a lump of wood held up Rockhampton's United Petroleum service station on Lower Dawson Rd in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A spokesman for the Queensland Police said the man entered the Allenstown store shortly after 1am, carrying a piece of timber.

The man then made demands for money.

The console operator complied, handing over some cash.

The operator was not physically injured during the incident.

The offender fled from the store on foot and was last seen running north on Lower Dawson Rd.

The man is described as being Caucasian in appearance, about 180cm tall and with a proportionate build.

He was wearing black pants, a black jumper, sunglasses and a black T-shirt pulled up covering part of his face.

The police spokesman said investigations were continuing.

The armed robbery follows a number of hold-ups in Rockhampton this year, including incidents at the Park Avenue Hotel and Berserker Tavern earlier this month, for which two men were charged last Wednesday.

If anyone has any information that could assist police with their investigations phone the Rockhampton station on 4932 3599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
