Man who set fire to Mt Morgan petrol station given probation

CENTRAL Queensland man Stuart McCoombe has been given two years probation after allegedy attempting to set fire a Mt Morgan petrol station on fire last year.

McCoombe pleaded guilty in the Rockhampton District Court to one count of attempted arson and sentenced to 256 days in jail, which he has already served.

The court has heard McCoombe drank alcohol for more than 12 hours and had been in a "depressed" state of mind.

Judge Brad Farr ordered strict probation conditions for McCoombe.

He says if he commits another offence, he will be back before the courts.
