Man's public stand over speeding fine proves expensive

A MAN has been made to pay nearly an extra $100 for speeding, when he took the matter to the Gatton Magistrates court, but did not contest the fine.

Murray David Kohn pleaded guilty to driving at 67kmh in a 60km zone on the Warrego Hwy.

Magistrate Bruce Schemioneck asked if Kohn was contesting the fine, to which Kohn replied "I just wanted to make a statement about the camera can being in the wrong place."

"The speed van was parked very close to the 80km zone, where the traffic would be ramping up, and a few days after I drove past and the speed camera van was parked further up from the 80km zone, Kohn said.

"Maybe someone noticed and said something to them to move it up further."

Magistrate Schemioneck fined Kohn $200.

Kohn also was made to pay $90.20 in court fees for electing a court hearing.

No conviction was recorded.
