Marlene brings meals to the masses
MANAGING the catering of creating delicious meals to the masses can prove a challenge for most people, but for Marlene McCaig, it's something she gets real enjoyment out of.
Marlene, who is the environmental services manager, has been with Hillcrest Rockhampton Private Hospital for 11 years. Marlene has always worked in the hospital industry starting as a menu monitor, then moving into housekeeping and catering.
“My department specialises in catering for patients, doctors, staff and visitors of the hospital and catering for events held at the hospital and other venues,” she said.
“We also cover a number of other aspects including maintaining a clean and aesthetic environment for the hospital, linen supply for the hospital, waste management and I'm also a green team leader,” Marlene said.
“I have a strong interest in food safety, and self and staff development”
Marlene takes pride in her job and said she likes pleasing other people through food.
“Food preparation and presentation is important to my role,” she said.
“I love the hospital environment and belonging to a team and I enjoy watching my team develop and meet our daily challenges.”
Marlene said she got a lot of satisfaction out of seeing empty plates from her customers; an indication that her team was providing a great food service.
“Just recently I catered for the Pink Ribbon Day Morning Tea at Hillcrest Rockhampton Private Hospital and we had a great show of numbers and interest in Breast Screening and Breast Cancer awareness,” she said.
“I encourage everyone to be vigilant because early detection is vital for surviving cancer.”
