Marlin Slayer brings home the bacon
MARLIN Slayer didn't slay any fish at Callaghan Park on Wednesday night, but he did take down some dogs.
Coominya owner/trainer Steve Boody is rolling in riches after he and flashy blue fawn dog Marlin Slayer conquered the Queensland Greyhound Racing Young Guns final.
Marlin Slayer was bred by Boody and is by champion sire Surf Lorian out of his good bitch Perfect Thrill.
Marlin Slayer was able to miss the early trouble and sit just off the pace before powering home to beat the early leader Velocity Chezon (Christine Pollard) and Wonsden (Paul Frederickson).
Race favourite Cosmic Crest (Darren Taylor) missed the start and was never in contention.
Despite a disappointing Young Guns campaign, Taylor received some compensation when his good bitch Cosmic Waters finished far too powerfully in the Open class event beating Junior Chavez (Dallas Beckett) and Spring Gift (Barry Hall).
There is an indication Cosmic Waters may now be set for the Cosmic Chief classic, a race for bitches only, in November at Callaghan Park.
In the top grade sprint race Refund trained by dual licensee (Gallops and greyhounds) Andrew Suli looked good in defeating Lack Of Patience (Allan Svensen) and Gotcha Class (Mark Lutter).
