500 turn up to Rocky house party after Facebook invites

ROCKHAMPTON'S night-life was shaken but not stirred by "the best and biggest party in town", attended by about 500 people on Friday night.

The Morning Bulletin understands an 18-year-old man celebrated his birthday in Talford St and had invited more than 700 people to the event through Facebook. The host yesterday said about 300 people attended.

But 18-year-old Talford St resident Hayden Hill, who was invited to the party, topped that number and said there were about 500 people around when he got there at 9.30pm.

It was the best party he had been to, he told The Morning Bulletin.

He left the party about 11.30pm.

"It was the best and biggest party I've been to," he said.

The mass Facebook event attracted more than the number of invited guests as it was an open party.

It was advertised on Facebook that there was an entry fee of $5.

A Rockhampton Police spokesman yesterday said the party was registered with them and was shut down at 12.30am on Saturday when the host called police and asked for assistance to move the crowd on.

The spokesman said police patrols in the area started at 8pm after police received noise complaints from residents.

"There were reports of disturbances and arrests were made for public nuisance incidents," he said.

Hayden said when he was at the party there wasn't much of a commotion going on in the street.

"It was well-organised, with only a couple of incidents."
