PAUL Matula shot 149 gross to win the Emu Park Golf Club men's open championship on the weekend.

A record field of 106 golfers teed off in the championship, which was played over 36 holes on Saturday and Sunday.

Matula fired rounds of 75 on Saturday and 74 on Sunday to claim the title.

The runner-up on a countback was Biloela's Adam Mollis on 153.

Barry Stapleton (163) won B grade while Greg Browne (179) took the honours in C grade.

Emu Park Golf Club promotions officer Bruce Slattery said it was a great weekend of golf.

"It was very, very successful," he said.

"We had record nominations and all the golfers were commenting on how well the course came up."

Meanwhile, Lynell Collins won the ladies open championship which was played over 18 holes on Friday.

The Yeppoon golf club member finished with 89 gross, ahead of runner-up Val McCelland on 90.

The B grade gross winner was Schanell Horwell (97) and C grade was won by Janice Pilditch (108).

Seventy-one women played in the championship.
