Mayor backs yes vote for referendum on local government
PAUL Pisasale is urging people to vote yes on the referendum to constitutionally recognise local government.
The referendum, to be held in conjunction with the September 14 federal election, will protect the future of local communities according to the Ipswich mayor.
Cr Pisasale said this was a chance for residents to take charge, stand up for their local communities and make sure their voices continue to be heard.
"This is about saying 'yes' to our communities and 'yes' to the programs and services that bring countless benefits and help build functional and liveable communities," Cr Pisasale said.
"The Constitution reflects the social and political progress Australia is making in the world and local governments need to be legally recognised in this important document."
